District Cubs go camping

Cub Scouts – You’re Invited!

When: 6:30pm Friday 14th March
   to   12:45 pm Sunday 16th March 2025

Where: Rowallan Scout Camp, Headquarters Camp.
6 Kent Road, Riddells Creek, Victoria

Cost: $59.00 per Cub (covers food, camping & activities)

Please arrive in full uniform (Shirt & Scarf). It is expected that Cub Scouts will have had their evening meal before they arrive at the camp on Friday.

A full fun program from Friday evening to Sunday morning will introduce our younger members to cub-style camping and remind our older members of the adventure they know and love!

Leaders from all groups in our district have been meeting for several months now, and the program is looking fantastic. Cubs are camping (in tents) at Rowallan Scout Camp and will do all sorts of Scouting things in the bush and around HQ Camp. We also have wet weather alternatives, so nothing will stop the fun from happening!

Once we know who is going each Group will confirm their logistics – so look out for further details about carpooling etc. Parents who drive up will be asked to stay and help put up tents. Parents who pick up will be asked to come a little earlier to help pack up and clean. Back at the hall, parents help hang up tents to dry if needed.

Adult helpers will be assigned to activity stations, as well providing support in other ways. You’ll be able to stay in dorms and have access to hot water, showers and toilets – it’s quite civilised really! And a great way to experience a camp so you understand what your Cubs get up to at camp! If you want to be a helper please sign up using the link below and let your cub leader know so we can get the right forms filled in asap.

We will send out packing lists and a reminder to update Operoo to everyone who registers.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q. I know nothing about camping. How can I help?
A. If you can hold a hammer, stand holding a pole, or carry a bag, you can help. Leaders will show you what to do.

Q. Will my child be safe?
A. Yes. The camp will be run according to Scouts Victoria’s Child Safe guidelines, which can be found here.

Q. Do I need to buy a lot of expensive gear?
A. No. Especially if you’re new to camping and / or Scouting, consider borrowing gear – many groups have things they can lend you, or direct you to someone you can borrow them from. Perhaps the most important item is a quality sleeping bag – you’ll find suitable options under $100 at most camping stores or see if you can borrow one. Other useful items are a sleeping mat or stretcher and a duffle bag that everything fits in.

Q. My Cub can’t be there for the whole camp. Can they still come?
A. Yes. While we recommend that Cubs attend the entire camp, and it’s easier if everyone arrives and leaves at the same time, we recognise that people can’t always commit to a whole weekend. If your Cub does need to arrive late or leave early, or can’t stay for both nights, we can make adjustments for that. If that applies to your Cub, please let us know the specific times they need to arrive or leave, as Cubs will be moving around so won’t always be at the main camp site.

Also, if your Cub does need to arrive late or leave early, and will therefore miss the time we’re setting up & taking down the camp, please consider helping your group with packing or unpacking trailers back at your hall.
